Gift Articles

Gift articles, which allow a paying subscriber to gift an article to someone else, are now available on the Lede platform.

Configuring Gift Article Settings

  • To configure your Gift Article Settings, navigate to:
  • Settings > Gift Articles in the Publisher App
  • Select “Allow subscribers to gift articles…” to enable Gift Articles links on all articles
    • Optional: You can add an override to this setting and select categories where the Gift Article links should not appear in the field “…except on articles with one of these categories”

  • Select “Do not allow gift articles…” to disable Gift Articles links on all articles
    • Optional: You can add an override to this setting and select categories where Gift Article links should appear in the field “…except on articles with one of these categories”
  • Optional: You can add an override to this setting and select categories where Gift Article links should appear in the field “…except on articles with one of these categories”
  • Click “Save Changes”


Giving a Gift Article

  • When enabled, a “Gift This Article” button now displays on articles for paying subscribers.
    • The button appears beneath the featured image (if present), and inline with the Comment button (if available).

  • After clicking on the “Gift This Article” button, a Gift Article link is generated and copied to the user’s clipboard. They can then share this link with their friends, spreading the love for your site around!

Redeeming a Gift Article

  • A user who receives a Gift link can navigate directly to that article via the link provided, and bypasses the registration wall or paywall, allowing them to enjoy their free article.
    • Any subsequent article views by the user triggers the registration wall or paywall (for already registered users), as you have it configured.

Gift Article Tracking

  • Beacon tracking has been added for both gift article giving and gift article receiving.
    • This information is not yet viewable in the Beacon dashboard, but is being tracked.

  • Gift Giving:
    • The ID of the paying subscriber who gifts an article
    • The article that has been gifted
    • Click tracking for when the paying subscriber gifts the article, within the context of the rest of their session visit 
  • The ID of the paying subscriber who gifts an article
  • The article that has been gifted
  • Click tracking for when the paying subscriber gifts the article, within the context of the rest of their session visit 
  • Gift Receiving:
    • The number of times the gift article link is redeemed
    • The ID of the user who redeems the article, if they are a registered user
  • The number of times the gift article link is redeemed
  • The ID of the user who redeems the article, if they are a registered user
