Learn how to set up post templates on the Lede platform to help streamline your editorial process. Post templates are great to use if you find yourself often (or always) inserting the same block in the same location (beginning and/or the end) of your posts.
Create a New Template
- In your WordPress Admin, navigate to your “Posts” and click “Edit” on any post you wish to apply your new template to
- In the Post sidebar, click on “Default template”
- Click the “Add template” icon
- Add a short, but descriptive name for your template and click “Create”. You’ve now entered the Template Editor.
- Click the “+” to Toggle the block inserter. Select the block you wish to add to your template (all of the blocks regularly available on your posts are available for selection, including reusable blocks).
- To ensure the newly added block appears where you want it to relative to the content of the post, click the Document Overview icon (three stacked horizontal lines). The content of the post you are editing will display inside a block named “Post Content”. Move the block you added above or below the Post Content block by dragging and dropping the block in the List View.
- Click “Update” and then click “Save”
- Click the “Back” button near the top of the post to exit the Template Editor
- The current post now has this newly created template applied to it and you can view the results on the frontend of your site
Set an Alternate Template for a Post
You can also have alternate templates which apply to only a subset of your posts.
- After creating a template using the process detailed in the “Create a New Template” section above, that template is now available to be applied to posts.
- Click “Edit” on a post in your “Posts” list that you wish to apply your alternate template to
- In the Post sidebar, click on “Default template”
- In the popup which appears, select the alternate template from the dropdown
- Click away from the popup and the alternate template is now being applied to the current post
- Click “Update” and view the results on the frontend of your site
Manage Templates
To manage your templates, navigate to Posts > Templates.
Edit a Template
- Click “Edit” on the template you wish to edit
- Make changes to your template in the Editor. A placeholder Post Content block is inserted into this view for reference.
- Click “Update”
Remove a Template
- Click “Trash” on the template you wish to remove
- Any posts previously using this template will now use the default template, whether that is the default template set by you or the standard post display (no added blocks).
