Gift subscriptions, which allow a person to buy a subscription for someone else, are now available on the Lede platform. By default, all of your products can be given as a gift.
Purchasing a Gift
- Gift subscriptions have a standalone product page at /gift/products, allowing you to drive users directly to the Gift purchase flow page. Users will also see a new “Purchase as a Gift” button on your standard /products page, allowing them to organically stumble upon this option for themselves.
- Note: If you have a promotion running on any of your products, users will only be able to gift the full price version of the product, rather than the discounted version.

- Gift givers need to have a registered account, but they do not need to be a paying subscriber. If they have a stored credit card, they can choose to use that for the gift purchase.
- Gift givers are prompted to provide the email, name (optional), and a gift message (optional) for the gift recipient.
- After purchase, gift givers will receive an email to confirm their gift subscription and thank them for the purchase. This email contains the product name & interval (monthly or annual) of the gift subscription, along with all provided information about the gift recipient.
If you have specialty products (in separate product groups) that you do not want available for gifting, please contact the Lede team by filing a support ticket.
Redeeming a Gift
- Gift recipients are automatically notified via email after a gift subscription has been purchased for them. The email contains the product name & interval (monthly or annual) of the gift subscription, along with the email of the gift giver, the gift message (if one has been provided), and instructions on how to redeem the gift.
- During redemption, gift recipients need to create a registered account, if they do not already have one. They do not need to use the same email address to which the gift was sent.
- After redemption, gift recipients are encouraged to add a payment method to help ensure a smooth renewal in the future.
- Only one gift can be redeemed at a time – gift redemptions cannot be “stacked”.
The redemption codes associated with gifts expire one year after purchase.
Existing Paying Subscribers
- It is possible for an existing, paying subscriber to redeem a gift. The redeemed gift will be added to the end of the subscriber’s current subscription term, allowing them to seamlessly continue their use of your site, while benefiting from their gifted subscription. After the gift period ends, their subscription will automatically renew and they will be charged again, unless they opt to cancel.
- Gift recipients who fall into this category will be clearly notified of this in the gift redemption flow.
- Any pending cancellations, upgrades, or downgrades on their account will be overridden by their gift redemption.
- Any pending cancellations, upgrades, or downgrades on their account will be overridden by their gift redemption.
- Example:
- An existing customer has a monthly subscription to Product A and redeems a gift for an annual subscription to Product B.
- During redemption, they are notified that at the end of their current subscription month, they will be transitioned to a free year of Product B (their gift).
- At the end of their gifted year, their subscription will renew as an annual subscription to Product B, unless they choose to downgrade or cancel their subscription.

Gift Reporting
There are a few different ways you can keep track of gift subscriptions, both purchases and redemptions.
Stripe

- At a quick glance, you can view how many gifts have been purchased by viewing the number of results directly under the “Promotion Codes” table.
- To deep dive, scroll down to Active Redemptions > Subscriptions > View all subscriptions. This will give you a complete list of all users who have an active gift subscription.
