Choose-your-own pricing lets your subscribers pick what they pay. Instead of a fixed monthly or annual price, a product with choose-your-own pricing enabled presents new subscribers with your suggested contribution amounts — or lets them name their own price. Every paid subscriber receives the product’s full entitlements regardless of the amount they choose.
Enabling choose-your-own pricing
Open your product in the Publisher App and turn on the Choose-your-own pricing switch. The fixed price fields are replaced by two lists of suggested prices — one for monthly contributions and one for annual. Add as many suggested amounts as you like (each at least $1), and reorder them with the arrow buttons; customers see them in the order you set. A billing cadence (monthly or annual) is offered to customers only when it has at least one suggested price.
Each list also has a radio button beside every suggested price. Select one to make it the amount that is pre-selected when a new subscriber lands on your products page; leave them all unselected and the first price in the list is pre-selected. Click the selected radio again to clear it. If you remove the suggested price that is pre-selected, the selection is cleared for you.
Once a product with choose-your-own pricing has active subscriptions, the option can’t be switched off from the Publisher App. If you want to return the product to fixed pricing, contact Lede support and we’ll help you transition it.
What your subscribers see
On your products page, the product’s card shows your suggested amounts as buttons — with your chosen default (or the first amount) already selected — plus a field where the subscriber can enter a custom amount (minimum $1). A subscriber who already pays a custom amount sees that amount filled into the field when they revisit the page. Checkout then works exactly like any other subscription. Existing subscribers can change their amount at any time from their account’s subscription panel: increases and switches from monthly to annual billing take effect immediately with prorated credit, while decreases and switches from annual to monthly take effect at their next renewal.
Things to keep in mind
- Sales, coupon codes, gift subscriptions, and scheduled price increases don’t apply to products with choose-your-own pricing.
- Subscribers who purchased before you enabled choose-your-own pricing keep renewing at their original fixed price until they choose a new amount.
- Custom amounts can be anything from $1 to $10,000, with up to two decimal places.
