Settings Panel Overview

Overview

The Settings tab in the Publisher App controls how your site looks and behaves for your readers. Changes made here are saved to the Lede platform and take effect on your live site.

The sidebar lists all available settings sections. Click a section to view and edit its fields. After making changes, click Save at the bottom of the form.

Sections

Login & Profile Options

Controls the login experience and customer profile features on your site.

  • Show or hide the login button in your site header
  • Set email (magic link) as the default login method
  • Enable Cloudflare Turnstile to protect the registration and email sign-in forms from bots, and enter your Turnstile Site Key and Secret Key (the secret is stored encrypted)
  • Enable phone number collection in customer profiles
  • Require email verification before new registrants are synced to Beehiiv, Stripe, and Supporting Cast (double opt-in) — enabled by default; disable to sync registrants immediately at signup
  • Configure Google SSO by entering your OAuth Client ID and Client Secret from the Google Cloud Console

Subscriptions

Controls the subscription purchase experience.

  • Enable or disable promotion code input at checkout
  • Show or hide annual and/or monthly pricing options
  • Show or hide the gift subscription button
  • Switch the “Subscribe” button to a “Donate” button
  • Set the default pricing interval (annual or monthly)
  • Set a custom destination URL for the subscribe button
  • Select which products require a shipping address at checkout
  • Hide the products page heading (“Plan Details” / “Choose Your Plan”)
  • Hide the “Step 1 of 2” checkout progress indicator on the products, shipping, and payment pages

Newsletter Options

Controls how newly registered and newly subscribed customers are enrolled in your newsletters and Beehiiv automations.

  • Beehiiv Settings — View your Beehiiv Publication ID. Contact Lede support if it needs to change.
  • Non-paying Subscribers — Choose default newsletters that newly registered, non-paying customers are auto-subscribed to, and optionally pick a Beehiiv “Add by API” welcome automation to enroll them in.
  • Newsletters and welcome automation by product purchase — For each active product, select newsletters that paying subscribers are auto-subscribed to when purchasing that product, and optionally enter a Beehiiv automation ID to enroll them in. Premium newsletters appear only for products whose entitlements include “premium-newsletter”.

Registration Wall

Controls when and how anonymous visitors are prompted to register (provide their email).

  • Enable/disable the registration wall
  • Make the registration wall dismissible
  • Set the number of free articles before the wall appears
  • Set how many content blocks to preview before the wall
  • Customize the title, subtitle, and call-to-action text and link
  • Add category-specific overrides that replace the global settings for posts in selected categories

Paywall

Controls when and how registered (free) users are prompted to purchase a subscription.

  • Enable/disable the paywall
  • Make the paywall dismissible
  • Set the number of articles a logged-in user can read before the paywall
  • Set how many content blocks to preview before the paywall
  • Customize the title, subtitle, and call-to-action text and link
  • Add category-specific overrides that replace the global settings for posts in selected categories

Messaging & Copy

Customize text and messaging that appears across your site.

  • Promotions — Set a promotional banner message and optionally force it to display
  • Subscription Confirmation — Customize the message shown after a purchase
  • Gift Redemption Message — Customize the message shown after redeeming a gift subscription
  • Newsletter text — Customize the newsletter sign-up text in the footer, in articles, and on the registration page
  • Social Sharing CTA — Add a call-to-action message next to social sharing icons on articles

Value Propositions

Add text to key pages explaining why visitors should subscribe. Value propositions appear as banners on:

  • Login page
  • Register page
  • Products page
  • Product Group page
  • Gift Subscription page
  • Donate page
  • Tip Jar page

Each field supports rich text formatting including links.

Appearance

Controls the visual style of your site. This is the largest settings section, organized into groups:

  • Dark theme — Toggle dark mode availability for your readers
  • Colors — Set primary, secondary, accent, and global background colors, plus dark theme color variants
  • Global Header — Header background, button, text, border, and notification bar colors; logo size and position; header decoration style; subscribe button text; nav bar location
  • Global Footer — Footer border color and layout
  • Main Menu — Menu background and text colors, location, and format
  • Forms — Button and field styling
  • Posts & Pages — Featured image divider color, article river and article divider colors, eyebrow style, article river content and layout
  • Archives — Title border, author divider, sidebar divider, highlighted post background, byline display, layout, image aspect ratio, subcategory navigation, preview text
  • User Account — Divider color on the My Account page

Typography

Controls the fonts used across your site.

  • Fonts — Choose between external CDN or self-hosted fonts; set primary and secondary font names and types (serif/sans-serif)
  • Font Weights — Set normal and bold font weights
  • Text Casing — Choose title case or uppercase for archive headings, article headlines, recirculation headings, and header/menu buttons

Ad Networks

Configure advertising on your site.

  • Set the in-article ad insertion method (every X blocks, halfway, end, etc.)
  • Enter your Google Ad Manager network code
  • Configure BuySellAds zone keys (placement, leaderboard, sidebar, fixed footer)
  • Enter credentials for Empower Local, Raptive, Ascendium, or Primis
  • Ad Blocker Detection — Optionally enable a soft (dismissible banner) or hard (content gate) ad blocker detection experience, with customizable messaging

Analytics & Tracking

Connect third-party analytics and tracking services.

  • Google Analytics Measurement ID
  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel ID
  • Reddit Pixel ID
  • Google AdWords Conversion ID and Event Label
  • Angler workspace ID and token
  • Option to disable auxiliary tracking entirely

Gift Articles

Control whether paying subscribers can generate shareable links that bypass your content gates for individual articles. When enabled, a “Gift This Article” button appears on articles for paying subscribers.

Podcasts

Configure premium podcast features.

  • Enable a premium podcast offering for paid subscribers
  • Choose a podcast provider (Supporting Cast or a custom URL)
  • Enter Supporting Cast API credentials if applicable

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Settings are saved per-site. Each publication on the Lede network has its own independent settings.
  • Some fields are marked as sensitive (like API keys and secrets). These are encrypted before being stored.
  • Certain fields only appear when a related toggle is enabled. For example, registration wall customization fields only appear when the registration wall is turned on.
  • Settings are stored on the Lede platform, not in WordPress — the Publisher App and your live site read and write the same underlying data.
