There is a lot of flexibility over how captions and credits display for article images on your Lede-platform site.
Media Library
Images uploaded to your site (not added via URL) are stored in your Media Library. There are several metadata fields associated with every image which you can fill out in the Media Library:
- Alt text: Describe the purpose of the image. This text is read aloud by screen readers used by visually impaired users and is indexed by search engine bots to better understand the content of a page, making it beneficial for SEO.
- Title: Internal field. Pulled from the file name of the image and not displayed on the frontend of the site.
- Caption: Descriptive text that displays with the image on article pages, unless overridden.
- Description: Internal, optional field.
- Credit Name: Typically the name of the photographer or the source of the image that displays with the image on article pages.
- Credit URL: A link that is applied to the Credit Name, if one is added. A Credit URL will not display unless a Credit Name exists.
Article: Featured Image
The Featured Image on an Article is set in the Post Options when editing the Post/Article.
- The Caption and Credit metadata from the Media Library display directly underneath the featured image: the Caption displays first, followed by a pipe “|”, followed by the Credit.
- If a Credit URL exists, the Credit information will be a link.
Article: In-line Images
In-line images can be added throughout an Article via the Post Editor.
- By default, the Caption and Credit metadata from the Media Library display underneath the associated image within the article. The Caption information displays first, followed by a pipe “|”, followed by the Credit. If a Credit URL exists, the Credit information will be a link.
- Within the Post Editor, the Caption can be overridden using the Add Caption button on the Image block. This does not change any existing Caption metadata in the Media Library.
If the information in the Caption and the Credit fields are identical, that information will not be duplicated on the frontend of the site.
